We’re excited to announce that “Visions of Warriors” has been nominated for a 2017 Voice Award by the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA). We’re deeply honored by this unexpected nomination. We share this honor with all the veterans and mental health providers who generously participated in our feature documentary. Hopefully, through this nomination, we can raise awareness about the rise of veteran mental illness and the power of innovative photography therapy to treat it. According to SAMHSA’s website: “The Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration is the agency within the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services that leads public health efforts to advance the behavioral health of the nation. SAMHSA’s mission is to reduce the impact of substance abuse and mental illness on America’s communities.” In addition, “The Voice Awards program honors consumer/peer/family leaders and television and film professionals who educate the public about behavioral health.” According to the nomination announcement, “In 2017, the Voice Awards is spotlighting individuals and entertainment productions that provide hope and support to past and present service members who have faced mental health and addiction challenges.” The awards ceremony will take place on Wednesday, 8/16/17 at 6:00 p.m. at UCLA’s Royce Hall in Los Angeles, CA.
